![]() Dry Love NYC Home again, home again, jiggity-jig. The KK Nine reception at SOHO Photo was nothing short of amazing. Met some fantastic people, saw some outstanding photography. I walked off and left my digi by the door, but my brother had his, so as soon as I get my hands on photos from the show I'll share. I saw many, many images I recognized in the collage and I tried to grab snaps of all of them. A huge thank you to Sandra, Jeff, Kelsey and the other gallery members (damn if I'm not horrible with names) who really made two TX boys feel welcome. Another huge thank you to Theresa Manzanares and Co. who graciously invited us to join them for dinner at the Franklin Station Cafe, where I had the most amazing Rendang Chicken. Jeers to the big NY fella that got all up in my seat, grunted and smacked his food, and was generally trying to aggressively engage us while we were trying to eat bad pizza. But totally worth it. Cheers to the subway lady who went from person to person, car to car rattling off the praises of her perfect breakfast. Stopping in front of each blank stare, she would gleefully shower each passenger with a description of her morning fare, including chicken, biscuits and broccoli. I'm glad she liked it. Jeers and Cheers to the weather. I'm still thawing out parts of my body (and maybe the Empire State Building Observatory wasn't the brightest idea on one of the city's coldest days) but to see Central Park under a fresh blanket of soft powder (snow, not cocaine) was the literal icing on the cake. Finally, cheers to my brother for sharing this trip with me (and an ear warmer) and having the patience to let me stop every five feet for pictures, fumble with cameras, and reload film. I'm thankful for each and every day we grow together as brothers and individuals, and your willingness to let me document the process in pictures. 'Scoreboard Texas!' The images out there being created under the 'Krappy Kamera' banner are truly inspiring. Cruising the net, browsing the blogs, seeing these images online is one thing. To see these works in print, in person, really lets them get in, talk to you, put their arms around you, move you in the most sincere way. I can't recommend enough to get out and see photography in person. I know I personally don't do it enough, but I'm working on that. | |
