 Clear Lake, TX This little tidbit of found social satire reminds me of 'the one that got away', the one that really sticks out in head and was the impetus for me to keep a camera nearby at all times. Driving down Spencer through Pasadena, TX, not long after 9-11 on my way to work. Sun had been up for a bit and had that early morning streaking going on, combing it's glowing rays across the pavement, shining into my eyes. I was driving past a commercial lot up for sale and they had one of those portable signs with the flashing arrows, and the single phrase 'God Bless America'. Only, the 'B' had fallen off. And over the right shoulder of the sign was the facade for the Wal-Mart that had closed down only to relocate a short distance away, bigger of course. My memory may embellish the lighting a bit with regret, but the setupI remember perfectly. Nothing subtle about it, it was grand. And I had no camera. update: Driving to lunch today, I noticed that the 'Do Not Enter' sign has been removed, further enhancing the temporality of these situations. - Toy Polloy.
